The other day my van would not start...argh - I never have liked dealing with these "mechanic"y" things" - By now you may be wondering ~~How can this blog be called "He felt good and so do I?" Well..hold on

Luckily, I live here on the isla. The "electrico" hombre (the man who does the electrical work on autos and apparently boats) was not around, but a fisherman saw me come up to his shop...he "takes a message" and says that he will have Alberto come over later tonight, as he is out on a boat working.

I say "thank you" - not really thinking that Alberto, would get the message - Much to my pleasant surprise...He does!

He shows up at my house around 6:30 pm, listens, states the problem ( I am thinking ..yeah right!) So I ask him..."how do you know that is the problem...you only listened to the car, and for that matter, you only listened to the car (not turn over!!!)?"
He says to me... "because this is my work!" What can a person say to that! AND it is so true!

So, I agree for him to take the starter out, and replace ...'the brushes' ~ He does so and returns to my house, puts the starter back in the van, as it is getting dark...and low and behold....the van turns over, perfectly!

All for 300 pesos! He felt good and so do I! You just gotta' love it!

The little green camera...

The little green camera that started the search.

I am sure most of you will remember the television show Candid Camera. The premise was to confront people with an unusual situation and see how they would react. Usually a trick prop was used. The premise of that show applies to my column this week, there’s just no trick prop involved. It is a story how people, some of whom you may know, have reacted to an unusual situation.

Jessie and Gary Rogers have been coming to Mazatlán for about ten years. As in the past, they left their home on Vancouver Island last year when the warm weather of México was more appealing than what Canada had to offer. For the fifth year in a row they would be staying in their 5^th wheel at Tres Amigos Park on Isla de la Piedra or Stone Island, as most of us call it.

They arrived the first of November. Their stay this season was like many before. Time spent with friends, cookouts on the beach, charity functions to attend, and quite lazy afternoons; a season familiar to many of us. However, shortly after 2012 arrived on the scene, their stay took an unusual turn of events.

As was often the case, Jessie and Gary were taking an early morning walk along the beach on Stone Island. It was January 3^rd. As they were walking Jessie noticed a small green camera bobbing at the water’s edge. As one might guess, the camera was full of salt water and sand. They took it back home and attempted to dry and clean it. They were unsuccessful. They also removed and dried the memory card in the small camera. Gary put the dried memory card in his computer; to his surprise up popped 431 pictures.

The pictures were dated and began with Christmas 2011 and ended on December 30^th with a picture of a young lady rowing a kayak off Stone Island. The Christmas photos were of warmly dressed smiling small children and adults hugging and kissing. The Christmas tree was surrounded with presents. Jessie and Gary went through the pictures looking for clues. They noticed that in the photographs taken outside, pines trees were seen in the distance. Subsequent pictures revealed a bus trip with one picture of the newly completed Baluarte Bridge on the Durango highway in the background. The picture was probably taken from the old Durango road. Maybe the owner lived in Durango.

A subsequent picture was of a hotel room; the date on it was December 28, 2011. There was even one picture of an attractive young woman sitting on what was obviously the balcony of a hotel room; but what hotel? There were a number of pictures of the young lady and a young man taken at different locations. Some pictures had Señor Frog’s in the background; while others looked liked they had been taken at El Cid’s El Moro condominiums. Maybe that’s where the couple from Durango stayed when they checked in three days after Christmas.

Gary and Jessie downloaded a couple of pictures taken at what they thought were El Moro and headed that way to confirm the pictures’ location. They did this a couple of times until they felt confident this was the hotel. Gary then downloaded a picture of the couple and of the photographed hotel room. He and Jessie returned to El Moro. They showed the pictures to customer relations people at El Moro. Although they said they would pass them around to the hotel staff they did not hold out much hope. By now it was time for Jessie and Gary to head back to Vancouver Island; leaving Mazatlán for another year and with no answer to their unusual situation.

But, Gary was not about to give up. Gary was a reader of the Mazatlán Messenger and had seen the name Jack Sieber in the publication. The name, Jack Sieber, also rang a bell from Jessie’s and Gary’s attendance at the “Blue Church” in El Centro, while they were in Mazatlán. He believed Jack also attended the church.

Gary sent Jack an email, telling him of the camera and Jessie’s and his efforts to find the owner. Jack knew he needed someone who could speak Spanish and would be a tenacious detective in following the cold lead. Tish Loeppky came to mind. Not only did Tish speak Spanish, she lived not that far from El Moro. He asked if she would help; he got an immediate “of course.”

Tish got in touch with Gary and was brought up to date. Tish happened to know someone who worked at El Moro and had her inquire with the information obtained from Gary. The answer came back that it would be very hard to locate the individual. There were 120 people from Durango who checked in on December 28^th. Undeterred, Tish went over to El Moro herself. Unfortunately, she was no more successful.

Gary continued to work at home on the unusual situation. Going through the pictures he noticed a wrist band on the young couple; the ones a person wears when on one of those “all inclusive” plans. Using his computer, Gary zoomed in on the wrist bands. After numerous tries on many photographs he was finally able to read the serial number and the words “El Cid” on one of the wrist bands.

Meanwhile Tish poured over the 400 some odd pictures looking for clues. She finally noticed the couple sitting under grey rock hotel arches. The arches looked familiar. Tish finally remembered those were the arches at El Cid Granada. Over the years she had taken her grandchildren there. Now all the pictures of Señor Frog’s made sense; you can see Señor Frog’s from many of the hotel room balconies.

At the height of her excitement she heard from Gary. The pieces were falling together. Gary gave Tish the serial number off the wrist band and Tish headed to El Cid Granada. With the serial number and date the hotel quickly found the hotel occupant, a Yeraldin Espinoza from Chihuahua City. The hotel staff gave Tish the lady’s phone number and email address.

Tish sent the lady an email, but it bounced. She then called Yeraldin, who was one surprised lady. This had been Yeraldin’s first time to see the ocean, so the pictures had particular importance to her. But more importantly, she could not believe that strangers had found her pictures and spent so much time and effort in locating her.

Since Yeraldin does not have access to a computer at home, Gary downloaded the pictures onto a DVD and mailed it to her along with the memory card. Yeraldin has not received them yet, but Gary has backups, just in case.

And so ends a story of what Jessie, Gary, Tish, and Jack did in an unusual situation. There is no trick prop, but there sure is a warm feeling at the end of this story.

Anything Goes

On Easter Sunday we arrived in Mexico City, to find out that anything goes here It was BUSY...however, we were told that a lot of people had left town. Could have fooled me!!

As we walked towards the center of downtown, there were groups of different people, enjoying their day ~~ Their way! This young group were doing incredible break dancing...
I love it! No one complained, those who wanted to - stopped and watched ...while others went along the way.

There was music men.

Amazing roller bladers. For me ~ I was totally fascinated about the acceptance of everyone doing their own thing...Anything goes!

Ventriloquist were out and about.

A harpist who played beautiful music.

There was silver men ~

And turquoise men!

And men of all sizes...(This man, did not want his picture taken, it took a lot of maneuvering around and time ...to sneak this picture..he had the "jokers" umbrella with the spirals on it; that he twirled ...it was hypnotizing)

There were princesses ( I love this about Mexico - I could do a blog, just on the beautiful gowns down here...for all sizes, from infant to adult! Any girl can be a princess here)

There were healers out, in full force with all the herbs....I loved the smell of the sage they burned...At least I think it was sage.... Can you see this man smudging this person?? He chanted and blew smoke from the herbs at different times..it was interesting!

I have many pictures of Edward Scissorhands...He was actually cutting peoples hair!!!! Not well, but snipping here and there!

Bumble Bee (from the movie Transformers) Was out and about ...here he appears to be giving directions...There were many different children's characters around...I just did not get good pictures of them all.

As you can see - Mexico City has surprises all around! It was clean, large, OLD and.... ANYTHING GOES!

I Felt the Earth Move

Last Wednesday, early evening, we were in Mexico City waiting for our food to arrive, when I felt the earth move ~ Well, actually I guess it would be the earth shaking....or quaking , maybe

We were sitting there at an -Argentinean restaurant on the corner. We were in the outside patio area, and I was facing towards the interior of the restaurant. I began to get dizzy and felt like my insides were being pulled around - a weird feeling at that...then I looked up and inside the restaurant I saw the light fixtures that were hanging from the ceiling, kind of spinning around (no ...I did not have any tequila!)

I said "I think we are having an earth quake" - NO one at the table or in the restaurant for that matter - noticed or said anything...other than the people at my table, thought I was being weird!

A few minutes later, the traffic got real busy - come to find out later from a taxi driver that the high rise buildings were being evacuated...due to... an earth quake

Maybe next time my insides get turning and my head gets dizzy - and I say "I felt the earth move" people will believe me!

Unless that is I have been drinking margaritas..............for those who know me - that will never happen!

Lines on the Isla

Okay - I meant to show you through the events on the isla during Semana Santa - Including the lines on the isla. However, we took off to Mexico City instead! SO other than the pictures below -I got ...nothing!

However, I have some great pictures and stories to share - of our travels to Mexico City, now that I have internet and electricity to my computer again, I can again make some posts...(internet only in the lobby and only 2 prong plugs..finally found the adapter...oh...It's a long story) ~

Here is the reason WHY, not much parking at the embarcadero on the isla during Semana Santa:

You see, the people of the isla come out in droves with "'taxis" to transport the 1,000's of visitors, mainly to the beach areas. This line continues in front of the school (to the right) and wraps around to the road (on the left) where you would normally see the "taxi's". I found out that there are permits and regulations for being able to run a taxi shuttle on the isla. Many families work together to keep their trucks moving for the entire Semana Santa days - However, a driver can only work a certain amount of hours! This is the first line the isla -

The next pictures are "PRE" Semana Santa busy times...in the past, I have waited in lines on both sides of the embarcadero for 45 minutes...just to get my ticket, let alone get into the other line to get on the boat.

It is not as they do not try..they have 12 boats at one time transporting everyone. It is just simply that there are about 23 to 27 people on a boat X 12 boats = that is only 621 people every ..what maybe 30 minutes... It takes a long time to move 1,000's upon 1,000's of people around!

Here is a line to purchase tickets to the isla. I will not post, but there are several vendors around selling everything from sunglasses, to sunscreen and bags of chips - I mean bags, of many bags of chips in them, fruit, caps.. the list goes on~

As we are standing in line for the tickets - a small line begins to appear to get on the boats.

As you can see there are 2 boats full of people - what you do not see are the other boats off to the left filling up and even more boats in the water filled to capacity.

Then there are the lines of vehicles coming into the isla - this picture is on rumble road. For those of you who do not know..Most of the time you do not see another car on this road when you are on it!

These are the lines of the isla...... at least some of them.

Buzz On The Isla

We all new it was coming...but all the words in the world can not explain the "buzz on the isla" It is fabulous...it energizes you..and gets you all psyched up for the pending stampede of happy people visiting the Isla de la Piedra!

People seem to be smiling more, everyone seems to be bustling around preparing for...the days of Semana Santa .....even the birds are picking up on the different "vibes" coming from the isla...

Seriously...Over on the Mazatlan side where the fisher mans market is...you always see many birds...but for the last 4 days...the "buzz" is on the isla side! See for yourself...

The word must be out in the bird kingdom...parties on the isla!

For those of you who are familiar with the parking area of the Isla's embarcadero...check this out ~

NO More Parking...for awhile....

What do all these signs mean? I mean look at the streets in down town centro at 3:30 in the afternoon on Thursday....

It was actually eerie walking down the streets ....

What does all this buzz on the isla and empty space mean?? Wait till you see the next post!

The Beer Is Here!

As I am cycling around the Isla today - there was one thing I kept seeing. BEER Trucks - Note: The beer is here -

At the stores there were, beer trucks ~ Not 1, not 2, but sometimes 3 beer trucks. Assembly lines of men tossing cases to one another, filling back store rooms. I would turn a corner and ..bam, another beer truck -
We were infiltrated with beer trucks ~ Which equates to me - the invasion of the semana santa is about to begin!

This island hums with people this time of year - lines of 100's of folks waiting to buy tickets to cross the bay. From the 30th of Marzo to the 8th of Abril - things will be different here.
This sleepy little colony, turns into one rockin' "place to be" - Church bells began to ring today, and music was blasting from many houses .....an audio sign to say..."let the party begin!"

Since I do not party like that any more....I will take pictures and try to keep up with the going's on ~ As the party will soon begin.... AS -- the beer is here!

Trucks On The Islands

Over 100 Big Trucks, Quads and such - covered the beaches of the Isla de la Piedra this weekend - today was the finale at Cheevos!
They competed over rocks....

There were bleachers, music, newspapers, photographers..Pacifico Beer girls...and lots of people from all over! Some of you - who know this area would have been surprised by the way it looked today ~ As the day progressed so did the amount of cars and people.

There were jeeps "that could"...

There were trucks "that couldn't"

There were trucks "that should have never tried"...

he got high centered and had to be winched out...

There was my favorite truck...they came all the way from La Paz!

There were dare devils...(isn't there always ?

and a few who made it more interesting to watch ~

All in all - a great day. Wonderful food was served, the crowd was fun, and lots of happy families!

STRESS IS SOMETHING - THAT WE DO TO OURSELVES !!

I have been learning a lot about stress and how it "whacks out" your hormones, which then in turn, has a ripple effect on your entire system; physical, emotional etc...

So when this came through my inbox - I thought it a good one to ponder! IS - STRESS SOMETHING - THAT WE DO TO OURSELVES??

A young lady confidently walked around the room while reading and explaining stress management to an audience; with a raised glass of water, and everyone knew she was going to ask the ultimate question, 'half empty or half full?'..... She fooled them all..., "How heavy is this glass of water?", she inquired with a smile.

Answers called out ranged from 8 oz. to 20 oz.

She replied, "The absolute weight doesn't matter. It depends on how long I hold it. If I hold it for a minute, that's not a problem. If I hold it for an hour, I'll have an ache in my right arm. If I hold it for a day, you'll have to call an ambulance. In each case it's the same weight, but the longer I hold it, the heavier it becomes.

She continued, "and that's the way it is with stress. If we carry our burdens all the time, sooner or later, as the burden becomes increasingly heavy, we won't be able to carry on."

"As with the glass of water, you have to put it down for a while and rest before holding it again. When we're refreshed, we can carry on with the burden - holding stress longer and better each time practiced.

So, as early in the evening as you can, put all your burdens down. Don't carry them through the evening and into the night... pick them up tomorrow.

Whatever burdens you're carrying now, let them down for a moment. Relax, pick them up later, after you've rested. Life is short. Enjoy it and the now 'supposed' stress that you've conquered!

REMEMBER, STRESS IS SOMETHING - THAT WE DO TO OURSELVES !!

You Eat Pink Slime?

and it’s sprayed with ammonia gas to kill germs. The U.S. Department of Agriculture says it’s safe to eat. It being "pink slime".

In the article you will find a quote from a large grocery chain spokesperson - stating that if you do not want to ingest the pink slime - you need to buy the other meat they sale, with out the pink slime!!

Well hello - Until now it was not disclosed that 70% of the hamburger had pink slime in it, so how would a person know they did not want to have it.. if they did not know it was in the meat they were buying? .... just asking....

I feel that we deserve to know what is in our food so that we can make good decisions - Understanding, this does not seem to happen, and I certainly do not trust that it will happen.

So, years ago I came to the conclusion that - the only way to really make the best choices with our food - Is to eat it as organic as possible ~~even then we have to understand that...it's the best we can do -At this time, I do not think anything is as pure as it should be...

A Dangerous Cup of Coffee

I know - I owe an explanation of being ...absent...but this will come another day - Compromiso

I just feel the need to warn you about being careful while making your morning coffee, while still in a daze! It is possible that you could create a dangerous cup of coffee.

I am just saying.... that if you were to have used your tea pot the day before to steep your detox tea bags (you know the ones that need to steep for 8 hours, then you add this strong concentrate to 3 quarts of water to make a gallon of detox tea that you sip on for a week) Yeah that one.... Well -

If you were to pour that concentrate into your coffee maker (thinking of course it was water) and brew your coffee - things may occur....

LIKE:
1. You may wonder why your coffee does not taste so good - It probably will not be the new coffee beans from Sole Mare.
2. You may get some tummy rumbling and cramps about 45 minutes later - and create a situation that you need to be near a rest room for the day.
3. You might experience headaches and sweating.

If this were to happen - You could give a great testimony for Dr. Miller's detox tea - IT WORKS! At least at the highly concentrated strength ~

I am just saying that... If you were to do this - you would create a dangerous cup of coffee.

Shitty Soil..I Only Wish

This morning I found myself a bit disturbed about the lack of "shitty soil" I only wish that was the problem ...if you know what I mean .
I was watching the news and had learned that the First Lady, Michelle Obama has a fresh organic garden at the white house. Okay that was not what disturbed me, what bothered me was the fact that ...she knows that the food we have the opportunity to purchase, is no good for us, due to lack of good soil.

So, I thought ...why the heck is the president not doing something about the crappy way the food is grown and harvested, not only here in the USA.... but...other countries, as they follow our crooked footsteps!!

...And why the heck are we allowing this slow poisoning process to happen... why is this being allowed to happen??? Then it hit me that this is all about pharmaceuticals and other chemical companies...I will not do the research to back up my claim, I think it is way to obvious that greed is behind this whole problem...but if I had to guess - I would bet that they - "the chemical fertilizer, pesticides companies" and the "pharmaceutical companies" are in bed together. IF they keep doing what they are doing, NO one will be alive in the future for "them" to make money on/with... so this really makes NO sense - at least to me.

Lets not forget that the soil has the capability to protect itself (and the plant growing) WITH NO pesticides - if all the 52 nutrients were allowed to BE in the soil...HECK, some fertilizers have 3 nutrients, a far cry from 52!!!

Okay - enough of that....

A few of my freinds had to remind me how wonderful it is that Michelle Obama has brought it to many peoples attenton how imortant it is to grow your own food, or at least buy local from organic farmers and she has a great project she is working on called Choose my plate

Lets all hope ...and pray.... that SOMETHING will occur to help our shitty soil - and that this wonderful program will help enlighten many people!

Funniest home videos

Friday night we were watching a movie, while one of the funniest home videos was occurring down stairs.. As we were enjoying our show....... Bumper (our oldest cat at 3 years) was making a ruckus in the kitchen!! He is a big stealthy cat; his neck looks like a line backers neck (kitty style)...

Now when I say he was making a ruckus - I mean he was making a ruckus. The yowls, and other noises coming from him were - WAAYYYY beyond any fight I had ever heard him in OR for that matter ANY cat in!

My sister got out of bed and Gavin went dashing down stairs to save...what ever needed saving!!

When all of the sudden I hear them laughing downstairs...a bit hysterically~ Curiously, I sit upstairs waiting to hear WHAT happened....(I am still recovering in bed upstairs)

What happened, was this..... Gavin went downstairs following the noise - which lead him to the refrigerator - More specifically behind the refrigerator. It appears that our big macho cat was having a fight with the refrigerator...the problem was the fridge was winning!!

How is that you may ask???? Well, it seems as though he was getting shocked every time he batted the back of the fridge!! He would bat the fridge, it would shock him, he would bat the fridge..... it would shock him - as this cycle continued - he got louder and more.....pissed off!! SO the battle was engaged and poor Bumper was getting whipped - or should I say jolted.....

Poor Bumper - he curled up on Gavin's backpack and began to lick his paws.... He may of of lost another one of his 9 lives!!.....but he IS still alive AND ... Hmmm....Black Friday ~ Mexico Style??? There are so many things that I see here in Mexico - and think "Man if Mexico only knew, NOT to follow the practices of many countries in the world.... they would be MUCH better off!" For instance the chemicals in the fields, poisoning us...

ANYWAYS..... I see that some of the Mazatlan stores are falling suit and offering Black Friday deals all weekend! I think this might be a great way to stimulate the economy a bit here too! I guess all " borrowed ideas or methods" are not bad
