Before I get to the comparison of Mazatlan to a city in the USA (comparable in size) there is good news!! 

Cruise ships, at least some have come to an agreement with??? and TWO cruise ships ported today in Mazatlan!

 

In Mazatlan the news I found was as follows:

• In the prison there was a fight and 3 prisoners were mortally stabbed
• Two men were killed, after they were causing many problems in their neighborhood, they were rival “gangs”
• Oh, the police found and arrested a man wanted for multiple murders since the 1990’s !!

 

Lets go with Oakland California Headlines today….

• Body in Delta-Mendota Canal is missing 4-year-old body – man who kidnapped and killed him still missing
• Police beef up gang enforcement after spate of incidents, About 20 incidents, ranging from vandalism to fights to noninjury shootings.
• Oakland Effect: The underbellies of violence thrive in the city - One of them is the plight of child prostitution. I've reported on this in other parts of the world, and there's no doubt that it's a problem everywhere. But it's particularly bad in Oakland.  
• Man Injured in Shooting - The victim said he sat in a friend's car when he heard a single gunshot and felt pain in his arm.
• Oakland man arrested, multiple charges including car jacking and assault with a deadly weapon
• Police call off search at Oakland elementary school – No gunman found after school lock down
• Police arrested a suspect in an armed bank robbery
• Merchant Charged In Fisherman's Wharf Shooting -accused of gunning down two rivals

Well - I think today I am glad to be in Mazatlan!! Sounds ...rough in Oakland, to put it mildly...I see a common thread of a lot of violence with the children in Oakland.

This is not fun research...but I will complete my mission, tomorrow a different city in the USA...
