Good Old Fashioned Training

As promised, a bit about the Budweiser Clydesdale's. I first became ...more aware of these wonderful animals, when we were "shopping" for a team of horses.

Okay, let me go back a step.  there was a point in my life that we owned and operated The Stables at Silver Creek.

We found a team in North Park from a Bi-Centennial Ranch (a ranch that does not use any gas powered machines, they ranch as they did back in the day)...The team came with quite a story behind them.

At that time, one of the White House Christmas trees was harvested in the North Park area, and a small town, Walden, had hosted a parade/event filled day ...one of the things they did was have a team pull.  The team that won that event, would then compete against the .....Budweiser Clydesdale team.  AND who ever won that event would then have the honors to pull the White House Christmas Tree! This was NO small tree!

So the team we bought out pulled all the teams including the Budweiser Clydesdale's.  During the time we had Jesse James ...Jesse and James.... ( I named the team...sure they had names..but we were dealing with folks that would appreciate a more...catchy name!)  I found out about a man from Australia who was responsible to train the Budweiser Teams to do the things you have seen in these great commercials.

Hard to believe ...but the things you see these huge animals doing...they are really doing it! NO computer animation...just good old fashioned, reality!  If I remember correctly it took 6 weeks of training to get the horse to kick the football...or was it to train the other horse to hold it while the other one kicked it....oh what the hay....does it matter?? It is ALL phenomenal!

One last commercial you might enjoy...Click Here   I think this commercial took him 11 weeks of training...or was that for the football commercial when the horses all lined up on the lines????
