The Bus Ride ~

We took our first bus trip from Mazatlan to Tucson on Tufesa's Executive bus ~ How sweet!

There are 28 seats on the bus and they are "grande", over sized, reclining with tilt foot rest ......comfy seats you can sleep on  There are TWO airplane style bathrooms complete with toilet paper, a seat (even a lid), paper towels ) look under the mirror) YES ...mirror, a soap dispenser...

Between the bathrooms at the end of the bus you can find hot and cold water dispenser, and all the fixin's to make a cup of coffee (or bring your tea or cup of soup!)

We also could watch movies on three tilt down flat screen TV's ...(though, in Spanish...go figure being in Mexico and all

The driver was awesome and ..I would do it all over again...although a pillow would have been nice and maybe some ear plugs...not for excessive noise, but  just "driving down the road noise" ~

We left Mazatlan at 7 pm and woke up at 7 am at the Military check point approximately 2 hours before the border.  This was the first stop that we all needed to get out and claim our luggage under the bus and take everything over to the x-ray machine and then load back up again...it took  (minus the time we waited on the bus) about 15 minutes , if that...I was very pleased.  and they helped with the luggage

A few times in the night I awoke to the bus being stopped and red and blue lights swirling around outside the windows ...but they were quiet and just walked down the aisle and then after a few minutes left...all in all very peaceful and NON-intimidating....Can not say that for the USA border patrol ~

At the border the USA folks were ...hmm...what would be the right word....rude, perhaps, or maybe a better word would be..slightly intimidating....Standing there with machine guns as we got off the bus to claim or luggage and put it through x-ray....They told us to take EVERYTHING off the bus including our trash, so I asked where I could throw it out....understandably they said it had to be x-rayed first then the man at x-ray would say where I could throw it away...So, my trash got x-rayed then I asked, the "question"...."Where can I throw this away?"
"What's in it??" he asked.
Well, I thought you just x-rayed it...but o.k. I will play along.
So, as I am telling him ~ I go to open it and show him that there is two empty coffee cups, tissues, and chewed up gum - in the box (oh the box..I will tell you in a bit) ...you would have thought I was going to reach for a gun or something they all pull their hands to their side arms...I mean jeez......THEY JUST X-RAYED my trash, surely they did not see any gun in it!!

So, I then "get permission" to throw away my trash, and go to where the man at x-ray says to go...and the man by that trash can...stops me abruptly and says to use a different trash can ...on the other side of the pick up...so I do so, and when I get back the man with the machine gun holding us all in a tight little circle, says...get this...
"Where is your trash?!!!"
I mean really...do I look like a.... ....a........well I do not know what...but jeez......So, I go on to tell this USA border patrol intimidating man in black with a machine gun..that I ...."threw it away".
"Where?" he demands.
"In the trash can." I say.
"Who said you could do so?" He asks.
"The man at the x-ray machine" I answer...now wait a minute I am thinking ...you are the one that said he would give me the permission to throw away my trash, after he x-rays it...what do you mean WHO???
"What man?" he asks as he looks over to the x-ray machine area ...where there is no one anymore.

I say STERNLY as I  look at him...."The man YOU said, would give me permission to throw my trash away!!!"

He ...stood down...a bit and the whole trash ordeal was over.....BUT NOT OUR WAIT!

All in all there were 8 people on the bus, it took the USA border patrol 4 hours to "allow us and then our bus" to cross the border...

They are doing their job...yeah, yeah, I know...but maybe they could do it with more couth! ehh?

Oh - the box.....In Mazatlan Tufesa gave us each a bus shaped lunch box with a triple decker ham sandwich, a bottle of water, a can of coke, a can of juice and a Buba Luba bar....how cool is that?

So glad the majority of the bus adventure was good. We Canadian Rvers have an expression...'the worst part of traveling between Canada & Mexico is crossing thru the USA'

    Hi Mary,
Glad you guys had a nice ride on a nice bus. Sounds like the one to take to Los Mochis to pick up "El Chepe"train.
It seems overkill at the border because, in my opinion, the US is trying to discourage tourism as a way to pressure Mexico to clean house of cartel's...not going to happen. A Thought, maybe Mexico could nationalize the cartels like they did the oil industry in the 1930's. The cannibis stores would be called "Memex"

    Happy Trails and Holidays.
    Wish you were here,

    James

I agree...just another way to detour tourism!  They forget though...there are many rebels!  I guess I am one of them...thank goodness!

I shared your idea about Memex with some friends here...they LOL with me!

      Thank You for your comments!
      Happy Holidays!
