A Party or Celebration?

Last night (Saturday the 11th) the fireworks began around 10 pm and the music soon after.  You could here all of  this from here on the isla ~~~ however, the fiesta sounds came from across the bay and from all over Mazatlan.  It was the largest party I have heard this year...it was the whole city!!

Here on the isla the church bells rang at 10:30 pm,  the locals came to celebrate the Virgin Mary. About 10:40 pm you could here the women singing songs to the Virgin Mary, then the bells rang again at 10:50 and then the big fireworks got brought out...drove my animals  crazy!!

In Mexico, every year the pilgrims (people of Mexico) make their way to the Churches on December 11 in the late evening and then again another pilgrimage to the churches on December 12,  to mark the anniversary of what Mexicans believe was the apparition of Virgin Mary before Juan Diego, an indigenous Mexican, in 1531.

The legend of the apparition has had a significant impact on the spread of the Catholic faith within Mexico. The Roman Catholic Church canonized him in 2002, as its first indigenous American saint.

People honor the virgin by building altars in her name in their homes and giving gifts to those who sing to her, to mark the feast of the Immaculate conception.....

Well, one thing for sure..the celebration (or party)..is largely attended and long lasting.....The last I heard from them was about 2 am...then I zonked out hard

Happy Virgin Mary .....Days

Try to stay as upbeat as you can...you'll be back in Mexico planning your Copper Canyon trip before you know it.
