No 911

There must have been a troublesome nymph running around the island today, as "odd things" were happening ~ Though the one that hit home the hardest -  was when  Dad and Joy returned from their meeting in Mazatlan, early evening.

I heard Dad yell "Mary I need your help now, Josephina fell!"  Immediately I asked Gavin to call Cody and have him meet me at Grandpa's.  In the next few moments ...(isn't it amazing how many things can go through your head in a few seconds).  I  ran to Dad's house...yes I can do that now, foot is mended....  I was thinking... did she fall down the stairs, outside, into the kitchen...how bad is she...is she conscious???

She fell into the house, through the door that has bit many an ankle...they need to do something about that door way.  She was laying on her side with a pool of blood under her head.  She said her pain was at her elbow and both knees and feet.  Of course, I am thinking 911!

Then I realized we are it. There is no 911 service on the isla, just as there was none in the mountain town we lived in when the kids were growing up in Colorado.  I suppose I should clarify..sure there is service but it will take way to much time. (Heck in the mountains.... flight for life it could take an hour! )

I breathed in my calm Mary, and got to work ~ To sum it up. The blood was from a  gash at her elbow, it could have used stitches, probably two but we were able to utilize the ole buttery fly bandages...after awhile.
She had major swelling in her left ankle with bruising, the other areas were slightly swollen. I used arnica. Cody lifted her into the office while we stabilized her legs. She is sore - but most importantly she will be okay.

Today's blog is a reminder to all of us, that we can not count on 911 or other services to always be there for us. I have lost friends in the midst of not being able to save them before emergency services have been able to show up.

We MUST have AT THE MINIMUM a Complete first aid kit, hydrogen peroxide, and phone numbers to call for help; be it a neighbor, family or friend.
Secondly I would suggest a "natural first aid kit" with essential oils, arnica, calendula +++ those are fun to create too!
Thirdly, I showed Gavin how to use the butterfly bandages and why. We discussed the care of the injured person and staying calm can help EVERYONE.

I think that everyone should have first aid classes, and be prepared.  Gavin took his at the Red Cross a few years back...We should take another one.....
