Watch the Cash!
I promised a warning and here it is...WATCH YOUR CASH !
I love to believe that everyone is not out to get you, but of course there is reality....Occasionally we will run across those who will take advantage of another.
As the case.... on this trip down to Mazatlan. Here in Mexico you DO NOT pump your own gas. There are attendants to do this and collect the money. In Mexico there is ONE company that sells all the gas...Pemex
We topped the tank right out of Navajoa and the two attendants seemed so friendly. One using the little english he knew, wishing us a good day and all..
This is what happened ~ After they topped off the tank (I already checked to be sure they started at ZERO) I got out to pay them.
I handed one of the men 500 pesos and then looked again at the amount and reached in to hand them another 200 pesos. This is when the one man looked at me and waved 50 pesos at me...(I thought to myself...no way I know I handed him a 500...it came out of "where I keep the bigger bills" But for some GOOFY reason I second guessed myself and took the 50 pesos and gave him another 500....Long story shortened.........that was the biggest damn tip I ever gave for filling up my tank!!
Do I dare to tell you that I said thanks, handed him my normal 10 peso tip and got in the car before I realized that...YES YOU WERE JUST RIPPED OFF!
SO...DO NOT hand anyone money till it is all ready (at least is my suggestion) and BE SURE - NOT TO SECOND GUESS YOURSELF
What can you do...other than learn from experience?
